Generation Communications Specialist RNP | Progress Energy | Hartsville, SC
This position is responsible for serving as communication consultant and strategist to support Robinson Plant management in coordination with NGG and corporate communications. The position reports to the director-Media Relations and PEC Communications. On a daily basis, the position serves in a dotted-line relationship with the vice president and site leadership, providing counsel, support and proactive communications to support site priorities. Has primary responsibility for developing, implementing and managing employee communications at the site as well as external communications associated with plant operations. These include written publications and documents. Coordinates with Southern Region and External Relations functions in South Carolina in building and sustaining key external relationships through plant tours and other activities as well as the continuous sharing of information. Serves as a primary company spokesperson with the news media on issues related to Robinson Plant operations. Also serves in key communications roles as part of the plant's emergency preparedness organization.
Serve as counsel and communications consultant to plant management and plant sections, with direction from supervisor or manager on plant activities, both internal and external.
Work with section manager and nuclear communication lead to develop and manage communications plans, strategies and tools for plant initiatives that successfully inform and support employees, link to business strategy and change initiatives, and improve internal understanding of Progress Energy's priorities, programs and activities by “connecting the dots” for employees.
Support plant management with issues management and communication strategy directed at external audiences. Develop and cultivate relationships with local media in disseminating information proactively or responding to their requests. Serve as a primary plant spokesperson for plant issues and activities.
Lead site communications responsibilities in Emergency Planning organization. Provide support to crisis communications team during major storms and other emergencies (typically in coordination with Southern Region activities).

Progress Energy's mission is to provide a safe, secure working environment for personnel in the plants. The selected candidate may be required to obtain U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Unescorted Access and will participate in the company's Fitness-for-Duty Program. Selected candidates may also be required to maintain qualifications and on-call responsibilities in support of the plant Emergency Response Organization (ERO), which means you are expected to arrive at your ERO duty station within the prescribed response times and fit for duty when on-call. Emergency response times are based on the distance in miles and the associated travel time from your residence to the plant emergency response facility that you are assigned. In order to obtain unescorted access, the selected candidate will be required to complete a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). Information from this form will be used to conduct an extensive background investigation as required by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
Experience in nuclear communications.
Nine plus years'related experience.
A Bachelor's degree and seven to nine years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 11 plus years.
